The Pilgrimage is a beautifully stylised glimpse into the world’s most revered surf spots. Edited by Sean Doherty (formerly of Tracks Magazine) the book unfolds in his distinctly lyrical yet accessible style. You’ll find yourself immersed in the back stories and legends but then presented with the raw facts and practicalities on how to get there, the ideal conditions and other essential information.

Personally this book made me anxious. Not because it was a tough read or I felt jealous that I hadn’t written a section in it. Simply because right now at least ten of these 50 fabled breaks will be pumping. And armed with precise information about them and how to get there I start to feel cabin fever, shortly succeeded by wanderlust. Life is about pursuing your passion and whilst I’ve been lucky enough to surf around 20 of the 50 breaks, I’m aching to get to the rest. Pasta Point anyone?

This book holds a special position next to The Surfer’s Code within my surfing bookshelf. If you’re after a bucket list of sorts for your surfing life you can’t go wrong by starting with Sean’s iconic guide.
