Balls of Protein for Surfers

Surfer girl and recipe-designer Evgeniya Ignatova concocted this recipe to help surfers maximise energy with minimal effort. Okay, it may take a little while to make these protein balls but you will reap the benefits in raw energy and paddle power. The protein will help build and replenish muscle fibres while the cacao delivers antioxidant goodness and the chia ups your omega intake. Best of all these are raw – no cooking is required!

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons rolled organic oats
  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1/4 cup cashews
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 4 large dates
  • 4 large prunes
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon raw cacao nibs
  • 1 tablespoon organic pea protein or good-quality protein powder

Directions

Blitz almonds and cashew into a food processor and process until you reach the consistency of a medium-grain meal.

Add oats and protein powder and continue to process.

Add honey, dates, prunes and nut butter and process until fully combined.

Transfer dough to a small bowl, and add in cacao nibs and sesame seeds. Mix well. It will be a little crumbly at first, but work it with your hands until everything sticks together.
