Super Energy Smoothie for Surfers

There are days when the surf is pumping but your enthusiasm is not. Fatigue, general malaise and lame excuses call for a potent dose of energy delivered preferably directly to your oesophagus. What you need is something that delivers an instant kick, backed up by slow burn fuel to sustain your stoke. Nothing worse than blowing it all in the first 10 minutes (a.k.a. coke and chocolate high). We’ve formulated something that will get you keen, keep you lean and help you surf like a devil machine.

Don’t be put off by the diversity of ingredients. Get them once and drink hard-core smoothies for a lifetime (or at least a few weeks).

Recipe

Ingredients

Serves 2 – drink both glasses if you like

  • 2 bananas, peeled and frozen (freeze bananas at least 2 hours before making smoothie)
  • 6 pitted dates (buy a bag of ’em from the dried fruit section)
  • 300ml almond milk (feel free to use cow if you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder (um, did we mention it is a chocolate smoothie?)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon raw cacao nibs (yep)
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 espresso shots, cold
  • 2 tablespoons organic pea protein or good-quality protein powder

Directions

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

raw chocolate

This recipe combines superfood kicks, coffee and various low and high GI components to give you an instant boost (which is all we usually need) plus an antioxidant touch and some slow-burn fuel to help you last the distance. It’s also all chocolatey and delicious without using sugar. Sugar is bad and will make you surf worse in the long run.
