Surf Movies On Demand

Launched during the Quiksilver Pro, Garage Entertainment has opened up the world of surf, action and adventure films through their new online, on-demand service. This means all those surf films you thought you might never see again (not to mention the new ones) are just a click away. We catch up with Garage Entertainment founders Michael Lawrence and Nicholas Cook.

Hey Michael and Nick, how’s everything going? Having a good week so far at the Quik Pro?

It’s been fantastic except for the crazy weather!

We had Sybil Steele (the legendary surf film maker and wife of the Corona ad king, Taylor Steele)  – who is an amazing  stylist – come up with her team and set up the booth. It’s designed like a cool man-cave meets beach house… Just add three Sony HD Smart tvs and the new Xperia Z mobile phones… It was the perfect way to show punters and the industry folk the new Garage Entertainment Film channel and digital platform.

It’s exciting to hear about the upcoming launch of your new action sports video streaming service. You know that moment when you decide to chill and think “wouldn’t it be great to watch <your favourite surf film> right now?” Seems this is going to be possible?

It has taken 4 years and we have had to gather the rights from over 420 brands and the best premium film makers in the world. After that we then waited for the technology to catch up to the rights we have gathered… but it’s here now! You can watch what you want, when you want on any device… rent or subscribe!

It’s been pretty fragmented, the surf film industry, so this kind of brings it all into one place?

If you were to compare it to surf retail online Garage Entertainment are the Surfstitch of action sports movies. Hundreds of your favourite, classic and new surf flicks… or the Quik Fliks of Action sports…

When and how will people be able to check out the new service?

It went live at 7am on Wednesday 6th March (2013!). I had Mark Mathews text me and tell me he was watching “Bending Colours” as a psyche up before going surfing at 8am this morning! Yes! That’s exactly what the service has been made for!
