TomTom Bandit Action Camera Review

The TomTom Bandit is a cylindrical black, white and red action camera that promises high performance and excellent image quality. We took the camera to the island of Tavarua in Fiji and gave it a serious workout both in and out of the water.

7 Things we Love about the TomTom Bandit

1. The impressive range of accessories

TomTom have everything thought out, which shows immense depth in their product design ability. They’ve diversified as a company and all we can say is: wow. The quality and craftsmanship is superb.

Below you can see:

2. The TomTom Bandit app

If you’re impressed by UX design then you’ll love the TomTom smartphone app. Even if you don’t know what UX means, you’ll love how easy-to-use and intuitive (that’s UX, or user experience) the app is. There’s some cool functionality including shake to edit.

3. Big LCD screen and control button

You can switch modes super-efficiently withe the Bandit’s big, bold control mechanisms. No more getting mixed up with modes or recording at the wrong moment.

4. Smooth motion recording

We said it in our video review and will say it again: the TomTom Bandit is one of the smoothest operators we’ve ever seen. In slow motion mode the shots look like they’ve been made by a DSLR with Steadicam. Seriously, it is that good.

5. No waterproof housing

Want splash proof? Use the standard lens cover. Want to go deep down? Screw on the waterproof lens cover. It’s so easy and hassle-free. Rinse the camera under fresh water after your action exploits and you’re done.

6. Quality in a range of lighting conditions

The TomTom Bandit has some serious technology going on inside of that little cylinder. It records razor sharp footage whether you’re underwater or shooting into the sun. The software adjusts the light balance intelligently and delivers impeccable results, even in standard Auto mode.

7. Robust design

With the TomTom Bandit you feel comfortable taking the camera to extreme locations. The device feels solid and durable and proved so when I dropped it in amongst a bed of razor sharp coral. In fact, not only was the camera unscathed, but it landed firmly upon it’s flat bottom surface and continued to shoot the tropical fish. My hands fared less well upon extraction of my new favourite action cam from the coral garden.
