Hey Ron! How are you? How has your day been?
I’m lucky, the best days start at sunrise, where I race to my studio and create. It’s like I wake up with all these ideas rolling around in my head that just can’t wait to be freed.
What inspires you to create?
The senses…memorable things that I see, smell, hear, taste and touch. I take note of what hits me and store it in the back of my mind until I’m ready to use it.
What are the perfect conditions for your creativity?
Plenty of new white canvases, a pot of fresh coffee and new music to listen to.
In the world of art, who do you admire?
Brett Whiteley for the colours and curves. Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty for the music. And whoever it was who first said: ‘Less is more.’
What are your favourite mediums and is there anything you’d love to experiment with in future?
Oils, it’s hard to beat the vibrancy and freedom oils give. I’m experimenting with painting on glass atm. I’ve always had a fascination with glass.
Do you have a mantra or words of wisdom to live by?
The two rules of harmony. 1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. 2. It’s all small stuff.
