Testing the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition

Last updated:

GoPro Europe were kind enough to part with a shiny new Hero3, which we tested out in the Canary Islands. Here’s a little mash-up of the things you can do with a pocket-sized, almost unbreakableĀ camera.

The HD video quality on this rugged little device regularly outperformed our DSLR. It’s a solid, professional-grade piece of kit and you can absolutely see these being universally included in any serious filmmaker’s gear, especially when size and versatility is key. The sound quality is exceptional when out of the water housing. Seriously – it was as good as our Canon DSLR with Rode stereomic!

Timelapse sequences are super fun and easy to set up, something that can be tricky with other cameras.

Note: The GoPro HD and high res image files get large so make sure you’re using a notebook or desktop with plenty of memory. You may also want to download the GoPro Studio software which makes editing and converting your clips a whole lot more fun.
