Superfoods for surfers: Chia

chia-seedsKelly Slater recently teamed up with The Chia Co to help raise awareness for this uniquely potent superfood.

Chia seeds are abundant in  fibre, protein, Omega-3 and other essential nutrients and are perfectly digestible in their natural, untouched state. In this video Kelly talks about the importance of a healthy diet and nutrition while learning about sustainable farming in Australia.

Food for me is about being able to know first-hand what I’m working with and where it comes from so that I can educate more people about it. This is a product that is so healthy for people and is going worldwide. You can tell it’s an honour for them to be growing this plant.

Chia Breakfast Recipe for Surfers

Prep time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 1

This breakfast provides slow release energy and the antioxidant power of berries.

INGREDIENTS 

METHOD 

Add 1 cup non-fat Greek yoghurt in a bowl. Top with 1 tbsp Chia seeds and ¼ cup fresh berries (or other seasonal fruit). Drizzle with  honey for taste. As a finishing touch, sprinkle cinnamon or cacao.
