When it comes to women’s surf gear it is difficult to find swimwear that is comfortable, stylish and purpose-built to last in challenging conditions. That’s why I was really excited to test OY Surf Apparel’s Kaja swimsuit, which combines classic style with innovative features.
The OY surf collection is hand-made in one of my favourite spots on Earth – Bali! The print on this particular model hints at the magic island’s lush green forests and will add a dash of the tropics to your summer, regardless of where you live.
OY Surf Apparel was founded in December 2012, and has supplied shops and clientele all over the world with their surfer bikinis, leggings and tops. Their headquarters are in Switzerland and the company has recently sponsored surfer girl and big wave charger Alena Ehrenbold. Find out more and follow Alena’s exploits on alenaehrenbold.ch.

As mentioned, the natural watercolour leave print is gorgeous. The fabric is high quality, yet soft and silky to touch. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear and you never worry about losing the swimsuit while surfing. When you wipe out everything stays where it should. It is nice to know that you’re wearing real surf apparel and not a flimsy bikini designed for lying on the beach.
In particular, I’m a big fan of the back because the cross-over back straps are not only secure but provide great freedom of movement in the shoulders. It’s also really cute and looks awesome above the low cut bottom 😛
The OY Kaja swimsuit is a perfect balance between comfort, style and functionality. Both surfer girls and active women who enjoy watersports will love the simplicity and elegance of the design.
This model is available in a variety of colours and patterns (you can check on the web site). But this pretty leave print is definitely my favourite. I received a lot of compliments on the first day I wore it on.
If I was to choose another swimsuit I would definitely get one more of these – probably in black and white colour (Kaja – Brush).
If you are not sure about choosing the size, you can find the size guide on the OY Surf Apparel web site. If you are not sure, go for a bigger size. When I ordered my bikini I was choosing between XS and S. I went for the smaller XS, and while it fits well it is a little bit tight, so the next time I get one I’ll go for S.
I’m 66.1 inch, bust 33.8″, waist 24″, hip 36″.
Price is average for a quality surf bikini – €85,00.
